
Windows 2000 comes with Internet access software and can be set up
to use a ‘ukbusiness.com’ account via a modem or ISDN.
Please note: Although the information given here is believed to
be correct we cannot directly support the use of any other software except
that provided with your 'ukbusiness.com' dial connection.
If your machine is connected to a local area network, check with the
system administrator before continuing with these instructions.
Configuration
The following explains how to set up Windows 2000 to use a 'ukbusiness.com'
dial account. It is taken from user reports and has been used successfully
by us.
Essential components
'ukbusiness.com' account details
Windows 2000 workstation or server installation CD-ROM
correctly installed modem or ISDN
First Steps - the infrastructure
Ensure that Dial -Up Networking has been installed.
Double click My Computer in Control Panel
Double click the Network and Dial-up Connection icon and click
install to start the installation. If Dial-up Networking is already
installed you can move on to the Configuring the Dial-up paragraph
You will be prompted to insert the installation CD-ROM to copy the
necessary files.
When complete, a prompt will appear to add a RAS device (modem)
if none are already installed
Click Yes
Windows 2000 will then try and automatically detect your modem
Follow the prompts to complete modem installation. When complete an
add RAS Device window will appear, choose the correct adapter
from the RAS capable devices drop down box
Click Configure and choose Dial out only
Click Network and choose TCP/IP, all other protocols
can be unchecked
Then click Continue on the Remote Access Set-up box, if no network
protocols are installed choose TCP/IP, and click Continue
again.
Windows 2000 will then install TCP/IP Support
Finally you will be prompted to restart the machine
If you are not prompted for this information then you can manually add
the components:
Click on the Network icon in Control Panel
Click the Services tab
Highlight Remote Access Service and Click Add...
Add Remote Access Services
When complete a prompt will appear to add a RAS device (modem) if none
are already installed click yes
Windows 2000 will then try and automatically detect your modem
If no network protocols are available Windows 2000 will prompt you
to add one, select TCP/IP and click continue
Windows 2000 will then install TCP/IP support
Finally you may be prompted to restart the machine
Configuring the Dial-up
Double-click on My Computer and then double-click on the Control
Panel. Double-click on Network and Dial-up connections.

Your screen should now look like the one below:

Double-click on Make New Connection and you will be presented
with the following screen:
Click on Next and select Dial-up to the Internet

Click Next to continue to the next screen

Select I want to set up my Internet connection manually and
click on Next

Select I connect through a phone line and a modem, then click
on Next

Enter the area code and phone number in the relevant boxes, in this
example we have used 0845 0795056. See our Access Numbers guide.
Click on the Advanced button to display the following screen:

For the connection type, select PPP, and put a tick in Disable
LCP Extensions
For the logon procedure select None
Click on the Addresses tab

Click Internet service provider automatically provides one under
IP address.
Click OK to take you back to the screen below

Click on Next to continue to the following screen

Enter your username in lowercase
Enter your password, this is case sensitive
Click Next to continue
Enter a connection name, for example ukbusiness, and click Next.
Setting up Windows 2000 Internet connection is now complete
