Outlook Express is the E-Mail client supplied with Microsoft's Internet Explorer 4. It can be configured to send and receive e-mail and news. It cannot be installed on it's own, it must have Internet Explorer 4.0 installed as well. How to install Outlook Express on your computer Click Start > Settings > Control Panel Open Add Remove/Programs Click the Windows Set-up tab Wait for Windows to determine what components are loaded Look for a Microsoft Outlook Express option. (If you can't see one, look for an Internet Explorer option and highlight it (do not click the tick box) and click the details button to get a sub menu. Outlook Express should be located there.) Once you have found the Microsoft Outlook Express option ensure it is ticked Click the OK buttons to accept the changes. You may be asked for your Windows 98 or Internet Explorer 4.0x CD-ROM so that your machine completes the installation of the required software. You may also be asked to reboot the computer after installation. Once you have completed this section you are ready to configure your e-mail and news accounts. Configuring Outlook Express E-mail Outlook Express can handle multiple accounts at once. All e-mail downloaded from your accounts will be delivered to the Inbox. Adding Mail Accounts Open Outlook Express Click Tools > Accounts Click Add > Mail... Type the name you want displayed on your email e.g. Joe Smith Click Next Type your email address e.g. (xxx99@acme.co.uk) Click Next Choose POP3 from the drop down list The incoming mail (POP3) server is 194.130.28.2 The outgoing mail (SMTP) server is 194.130.28.2 Click Next Choose Log on using : and type your username e.g. xxx99 Type your e-mail password (This is supplied with your account) Click Next Choose a Friendly Name to identify this account in Outlook Express. This can be anything - it will not appear on the e-mail Choose "Connect using your phone line" Click Next Choose "Use an existing connection" Click Next and Select a connection from the list Click Next Click Finish to complete the set-up. |
